Bad Players at. 50/One

I again come back to one of my good friends who multitables (8 or 9) .50/1 online poker games. He plays so many casino tables at once to even out the variance that might happen if he played just one table. He sees more hands and can win on one table and lose on another that they cancel each other out. Over longer periods of time, his skill should eek out a small profit over the accumulated losses. This is one of the disadvantages of playing poker online.

The other day he was 9-tabling and had AA in the BB with a $183 stack. The player UTG (under the gun, first to act) raises it to $3 and everyone folds and it gets back to my friend. He makes it $9. The UTG then 4-bets to $21. Now, my friend has AA and is loving this situation. But, can he really go all in for $160 more and get this guy t come along?

He decides to 5-bet to $39 and the UTG player once again raises, this time a min raise to $57. No more joking around, my friend concludes it must be AA vs KK and decides the UTG player will come along for another $126 and goes all in. The UTG player calls and shows JJ. How he could have stayed in and called a 7-bet with JJ and thought it might actually be the best hand, I have no idea. No one would ever make this play without AA or KK. Even with QQ or AK, they probably would have flat called maybe the 4-bet to see a flop. The final call was $126 into a pot of $240. He’s getting about 2-1 and is a 4-1 underdog. He’s not getting the right price and he’s just playing terribly. He calls. He hits a jack. My friend loses $183 with AA vs JJ in a hand that seemed impossible when played out in front of you. Insanely enough, he was still up $40 on his 9-table session. So, even the variance of losing $183 where he was a 4-1 favorite to win, was offset by consistent play at the other tables.
