Know when to Stop

One of the major things that distinguishes a strong poker player who makes money from great players who do not is money management. It can be more difficult to get up from the poker online table when you’re behind, but when things aren’t going your way, sometimes it is better to call it a day and wait for your mind to return. You have to know yourself: am I playing my best? Am I donking around trying to get lucky on one hand and return to where I started, or are the cards just cold? Can I play my best?

Being able to answer these questions and do the right thing after is so important, and avoiding the answers are a way many poker online players in bad moods leak their bankroll. If I could have back all the money I gave away steaming, I would be a rich man.

If you’re playing online and taking beats, I’ve found its often a good idea to get up and go play a sit n go to blow off some steam, or even drop down to a low buy in table and play the bully for a little while, just to get your head and sense of gamesmanship back about you. Then you can return to the money game a bit corrected in the head.
